BARC India, which measures television viewership, and Kerala TV Federation have filed a police complaint after it was found that there were attempts to influence BARC’s television viewership measurement system in some of its panel homes in Kochi. BARC says there were attempts to not only find out the addresses of some of its empanelled homes, but also to incentivise them to watch certain channels. BARC has quarantined the homes concerned. The temptation to influence viewership is considerable as a channel’s ad revenue rides on its ratings. In a press statement, CEO Partho Dasgupta said, "BARC India will stop publishing ratings for those channels found involved in such activities."
