Bulk smses banned
Posted/Updated Saturday, Aug 18 16:11:46, 2012

The Centre has imposed a fortnight long SMS ban to tackle the exodus of people belonging to north eastern states from Bangalore. The circular clearly states that bulk smses (more than five) and bulk MMSes (more than five with attachment more than 25 kb) will be blocked throughout the country. However,  telecom operators have interpreted the bulk sms ban as a five-message cap per day. Twitter has been abuzz with complaints to various telecom companies asking for  clarifications about the SMS ban.  Vodafone said that following government instructions they have implemented a ban on sending more than five text messages per day. The ban however only limits the number of people who can receive the same message.
