For TV channels the Dan Reed documentary is the worst of news. It is embarrassing and damaging as it shows all too clearly the link between the media coverage and the actions of the terrorists and their handlers,

it is not media but the govt that decides whether media should eb allowed so close to a commando activity. So the failure is of the govt for not cordoning off the area and allowing onlookers and news reporters to be so close to the site of conflict which comprised the action by the special task force.

HBO doesn¿t seem to be showing it in India either. It¿s not on their schedule for tonight. It is being aired in the US though. How disappointing.

Debashis: Reminds me of the comment in the story The Six Napoleons by Conan Doyle, "The Press Watson is a most valuable institution if you only know how to use it". True, two can play that game of information and disinformation.

The way the media reported 26/11 was immature. However, the Indian media will never be controlled as the very politicians and bureaucrats who criticise it during these times, use this vehicle to beat their opposition at other times. Therefore, if I had been a general, I would have fought the war on the terrorists making provisions for those idiot journalists. I would have got some home guards and made them wear commando fatigues and handed them guns without bullets and placed them all around the perimeter. These would have green berets and fake radios. They would have been instructed to talk into the radios continuously. The real commandos would run into the building and then take the enemy. You have to win the war and take the enemy prisoner. No excuses.

MEDIAWATCH BRIEFS |
|
Inspired by Ruchika | | Soap makers have moved on to real life police cases. A new soap to hit the screens soon is apparently based on the infamous Ruchika Girhotra molestation and suicide case. Actor Ashutosh Rana has been roped in to play a role that seems inspired by the ex Haryana DGP SPS Rathore. Titled ''Kali - Ek Agnipariksha' this Star Plus creation revolves around a young badminton player and a powerful businessman.
| Nice deal | | When Vir Sanghvi gets invited to Iceland by the government and then produces three pages in HT's Brunch on that country and why it makes a great holiday destination for Indians, what should we call that? Sponsored news?
| Protest against award | | Siddharth Varadarajan of the Hindu has written to the jury which gave the Indian News Broadcasting Award for News Reporter of the Year 2010, Hindi, to Neeta Sharma of NDTV India, protesting at the choice. He says this was the reporter who had written a false story in the Hindustan Times calling Iftikhar Gilani an ISI agent some years ago. The story contributed to the journalist's incarceration and caused Gilani no end of trouble, but the reporter and the paper never published an apology for it.
