The Rory Peck Awards, the only awards dedicated to the work of freelance cameramen and women in news and current affairs are now in their 18th year.
Internationally respected and highly prized, every year the awards receive widespread international press attention including broadcast coverage on BBC World, BBC World News, Channel 4 (UK) and Reuters.
Entries are especially welcome from freelancers in under-represented countries, such as India, where we know that there is a wealth of good journalistic and documentary-filmmaking talent. Stories can be national or international. The awards are free to enter and
Entries are invited across three competitive categories:
 
The Rory Peck Award for News
This award honors the work of freelance cameramen and women in the coverage of a news event where the focus is on the immediacy of the story. Rushes / un-voiced pieces are accepted in this category. Max. duration 10 mins.

The Rory Peck Award for Features
This award honors the work of freelance cameramen and women in news and current affairs features: in-depth pieces which look beyond the immediacy of a news story.
Max. duration 60 mins.
 
The Sony Impact Award
This award honors the work of freelance cameramen and women in news or current affairs that examines humanitarian or social issues. Judges will be looking for entries that have had a tangible impact in one or more of the following areas: audience, press, policy or public awareness.
Max. duration 60 mins
 
In all categories, the awards recognize quality of camerawork but also take into account individual endeavor, initiative and journalistic ability.
All entries must have had their first broadcast (TV, agency feed, and recognized online news publisher) between 1 June 2011 and 31 May 2012.
This year's Rory Peck Awards ceremony takes place on Wednesday 28 November at London's BFI Southbank.
