Reuters is looking for a copy editor with exceptional rewriting skills and news judgment to help drive coverage of U.S. and Canadian companies from Bengaluru. The successful candidate will be adept at performing quickly under pressure as he/she works with reporters to produce compelling stories that appeal  both to  professional clients who rely on Reuters to help make investment decisions and general readers who access Reuters news through Reuters.com and media outlets. An eye for detail and an ability simplify and explain often-complex material are musts for this job, as are strong communication and mentoring skills. As well as ensuring that stories meet Reuters’ standards for accuracy, speed, balance and clarity, the sub-editor will be expected to produce sharp headlines, punchy leads and overall lively writing while offering guidance and support to reporters by looking beyond the obvious, spotting trends, adding insight and coming up with suggestions for moving spot stories forward. The ability to interpret and use data effectively is essential. Priority for interviews will be given to candidates who have at least three years experience editing business news for a major newspaper, magazine or news agency but consideration will also be given to reporters with proven writing skills and copy editors who can demonstrate exceptional skill in handling non-business stories.  These positions are offered on local terms, with no relocation.

 

Job Profile/Description:

  • Edit stories to Reuters’ high editorial and ethical standards, adhering to style, guidelines and policies laid out in the Reuters Operations Manual and Style Guide
  • Ensure that stories have the context, balance, structure, narrative flow, sourcing and clarity that clients need
  • Ability to understand, simplify and explain complex material
  • Guide and mentor reporters
  • Help to promote a positive and collaborative working environment in the Bengaluru newsroom

Qualifications : ? Graduate/post-graduate with at least three years of sub-editing or reporting experience ?

The new term for self censorship is voluntary censorship, as proposed by companies like Netflix and Hotstar. ET reports that streaming video service Amazon Prime is opposing a move by its peers to adopt a voluntary censorship code in anticipation of the Indian government coming up with its own rules. Amazon is resisting because it fears that it may alienate paying subscribers.                   

Clearly, the run to the 2019 elections is on. A journalist received a call from someone saying they were from Aajtak channel and were conducting a survey, asking whom she was going to vote for in 2019. On being told that her vote was secret, the caller assumed she wasn't going to vote for 'Modiji'. The caller, a woman, also didn't identify herself. A month or two earlier the same journalist received a call, this time from a man, asking if she was going to vote for the BSP.
