A mighty slugfest has broken out between two of India’s most watched television journalists — Times Now Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami and NDTV’s consulting editor Barkha Dutt. During Times Now’s Newshour debate on Tuesday, Arnab launched a tirade against sections of the media that he said were sympathetic to Pakistan fomenting terror in India. These “pro-Pakistan and pseudo-secular” journalists should be brought to “trial” he said. The background to this was that Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Hafiz Saeed had praised the Congress party and NDTV’s Barkha Dutt for not laying the unrest in Kashmir entirely at Pakistan’s door. Reacting to Arnab’s call for action against the “Doves” in the media, Barkha Dutt came out with a Facebook post on Wednesday. “Times Now calls for gagging of media & for journalists to be tried & punished. This man is a journalist? I am ashamed to be from same industry as him.” Indian media has rarely seen such open rancour between members of its own tribe.
